Randy Rhoads Documentary Update (It Ain’t Much, but Something’s Better than Nothing)

After posting that last entry on the RR wine, I did a little snooping around for any info I could find on the Randy Rhoads documentary. The only thing I found was on a recent Facebook post on Randy Rhoads page that said Director Peter Margolis handed the film over to Dakota pictures “a while back.”

Sooo, after searching in vain on the Dakota Pictures website, I decided to send them an email asking if there was any information and those kind folks got back to me right away with this:

Yes – the RR doco is deep into the post production process. We don’t have any schedule information at this time.
All the best,

Dakota Pictures

I know it’s not much, but coming from the horse’s mouth (so to speak), it is good to know that the project is moving forward.  I know a lot of folks who are excited to see this film, myself included.

Randy Rhoads Cabernet Sauvignon

Now, there’s 4 words I never expected to use in the same sentence.

Nevertheless, if you find yourself in Burbank, CA on December 4th & 5th, you can celebrate Randy’s birthday with his sister Kathy Rhoads D’Argenzio and the Rhoads family at the D’Argenzio Tasting Room (who knew Randy’s sister had a winery?). You’ll get to try the new Randy Rhoads Cabernet Sauvignon (2005). Hey, if it’s wine, it’s gotta be a Cab, right? If you can’t make it out there personally, you can order a bottle for $53 (a portion of which goes to the Randy Rhoads Charitable Trust). It could be cool gift for that RR fan in your life. With the new The Police Synchronicity wine (which, to me, is somehow a little more expected from Sting), I gotta ask if this is some kind of trend?

Update on Guitarist Randy Rhoads Documentary

From Blabbermouth.net 11/4/09:

Director Peter M. Margolis of Dakota Pictures is rapidly approaching the final stages of editing and post-production on “Randy Rhoads: Last Train Home” (working title), the long-awaited documentary film on the life of celebrated rock guitarist Randy Rhoads (OZZY OSBOURNE, QUIET RIOT). Margolis is reaching out to anyone who may have a candid photo of Rhoads to contribute to the film… (visit Blabbermouth.net for more details)

It’s good to hear that things are progressing.  There was some buzz earlier this summer when the movie trailer was released, and then subsequently pulled due to rights issues.  But anticipated release dates for the film have come and gone.  It’d be nice to see it open around his birthday (Dec 6), but I imagine the anniversary of his death (Mar 19) is more realistic.  Looking forward to this one.

Guitarist Randy Rhoads Documentary Trailer: Last Train Home

Update: as of Nov 4, 2009: According to Blabbermouth, “Director Peter Margolis is rapidly approaching the final stages of editing and post-production.”

Below is a trailer for the upcoming documentary on guitar legend Randy Rhoads.  I can’t wait!  His influence on me and countless other guitarists has been profound.  There isn’t much footage of him live, so this movie will be a real treat.  Tentative release date is September 2009.  (via Hard Music News, @mrrocknroll, @guitarkadia, & Brave Words and Bloody Knuckles).

(Edit – It appears that the video has been taken down.)
