My favorite rock sax solo ever.
Joyful Noise! Tour 2011
Sadly, this is my last tour with the Joyful Noise! band for a while. With the success of my band CCB, and in order to simplify my life a little bit, I’ve decided not to return to the JN! group next year. It has been a blast, and I will miss these amazing people dearly! But we have one final tour to do and we’re heading to Tennessee. Even though we’re not going to make it to Nashville, I’m pretty excited about going to Tennessee since I’ve never been. I’ll be blogging about it right here, so stay tuned!
Solidbody Guitar Documentary
Rainy day documentary. I stumbled across this film on solidbody guitars on Snagfilms and it is quite good. It covers the history, development, and competition between Stratocasters & Les Pauls. Since it focuses almost exclusively on these two models, others are not discussed very much, if at all. Telecasters & SGs are covered a little bit, but other significant brands like Gretsch, Rickenbacker & Ibanez are not. Still, it’s a great film with appearances by Derek Trucks, Gary Hoey & Henry Garza. Definitely worth 50 min. of your time.
Over $12K Raised for Compassion!
If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know that I play in a band that backs Joyful Noise!, a Christian youth choir. Every year we do a concert (or two) to raise money for Compassion International and then we also tour for a week, taking offerings for the same cause. Joyful Noise! is an amazing group, and I’m excited to announce that at our concert this month we raised over $12,000! That’s a lot of 3rd world kids getting help. I’m amazed at the generosity of folks, especially in these tight times.
I’ll be blogging about the tour in June, too. We’re headed to Tennessee this year. So any of you readers from TN, stay tuned! I’ll post an agenda soon and maybe we will see you at a show!
Update on My DIY Pedalboard on the Cheap
Last summer, I wrote about my DIY effects pedalboard made from IKEA shelving parts. This is a simple & inexpensive design I got from Armchair Bronco over at Harmony Central forums.
I’ve been taking this board to shows ever since and it has held up very well. I’ve also loaded it down with more pedals. In effects chain order, I now have:
- Boss TU-3 Tuner
- Fulltone OCD – tone sweetener, always on
- Fulltone Plimsoul - for screamin leads
- Cap’n Crunch (GGG ITS-8 kit with Boutique Mods) – clean boost for clean leads
- FrankenWah – Heavily modded Vox V847 Wah
- Ernie Ball VP Jr Volume
- MXR Carbon Copy Delay
I play my Warmoth Strat or G&L S-500 through it, into my 1st gen. Peavey Classic 30.
