From what I can gather, this recording (a medley jam of Little Drummer Boy / Silent Night / Taps / Auld Lang Syne) was recorded during the Band of Gypsys rehearsals for the Fillmore shows on 12/31/69 & 1/1/70. It was re-released on CD in 1999 & again in 2005.
Merry Christmas!

I always like what you post but this is not Jimi’s finest. Love ya anyway:)
By the way, you sounded really good today. Super job!
Happy New Year! Remember when you played New Year’s with my band? Wow, many moons ago.
Thanks Fran, yes I remember that New Years gig with fondness! I had a blast playing with you and ate like a king that night! I agree this isn’t Jimi’s best, but it’s historically & thematically appropriate. Plus I love the picture.
Thanks!
Had never heard it before, sounds interesting
It sounds like he’s just noodling around with the tunes. I don’t think this was done with the intent of it being released (it was during a rehearsal or soundcheck). But for me, the fact that it exists is enough. I love me some Jimi!
He sure did have a distinctive voice.
